Leaks around the chimney traced and fixed with step flashing, counterflashing and sealed masonry joints.
A stain on the ceiling near the fireplace is a sign worth taking seriously. Water around a chimney can come from several places: the crown, the mortar joints, the flue, the cap and, most often, the flashing, which is the metal that connects the chimney to the roof. Finding the true source is half the work.
We trace leaks methodically, starting at the top and working down. For flashing, we install step flashing along the sides and a saddle at the back, with counterflashing set into cut mortar joints so that it overlaps and sheds water naturally. We seal masonry joints as needed and leave the roof and chimney watertight. Leaks near a chimney are often blamed on the roof, but we have seen just as many that start in cracked mortar or a missing cap. A careful check of every part saves you from paying for repairs that do not fix the problem.
We check the crown, joints, cap and flashing in turn and, where needed, water-test sections to see where moisture enters.
Layered metal pieces carry water down the roof slope. A saddle behind the chimney diverts water around it.
Metal tucked into cut mortar joints overlaps the flashing below. Surface caulk alone does not last.
Flashing meets shingles, so we protect your roof and coordinate with roofers where repairs overlap.

You tell us about the wall, chimney, patio or idea and the timeline, and we set a visit that fits your day.
We walk the property, look closely at the masonry, show brick and stone samples and talk through the layout.
We measure everything, write a proposal and coordinate any association approvals or permits.
We mark the work area, protect lawns and plants, excavate and set footings and bases.
Our masons lay brick, stone and block by hand, checking level, plumb and spacing at every stage.
We tool the joints, clean the faces, walk the project with you, share care tips and leave the site clean.
We check both. Many leaks near chimneys come from flashing.
Caulk is temporary. Metal flashing set into the masonry lasts much longer.
We can often find the source without waiting, though water tests help.
Sometimes. We explain what is needed.
Most take a day or less.
