Nashville and communities across Middle Tennessee, including Franklin, Brentwood, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet and more. See the service areas page for the full list.

FAQ

Brick, stone and mortar

What is tuckpointing?

Tuckpointing, also called repointing, replaces worn mortar joints with fresh, color-matched mortar so water stays out of the wall.

Brick or stone, which is better?

Both last for generations. Brick is orderly and moderate in cost. Natural stone is richer and costs more. Our brick versus stone guide compares them.

What is the white powder on my brick?

It is usually efflorescence, a salt left by moisture moving through the wall. It is a clue to look for water entry.

FAQ

Chimneys and walls

How often should a chimney be inspected?

Once a year is a common habit, and after major storms or when you notice staining, cracks or loose brick.

Why do retaining walls fail?

Water pressure behind the wall, a weak base and poor backfill are the usual causes. Drainage is the most important part of any wall.

Can a leaning chimney or wall be saved?

Sometimes. It depends on the cause and how far it has moved. We inspect first and explain the options plainly.

FAQ

Planning, permits and cost

Do I need HOA approval or a permit?

Often for associations, and for taller walls, chimneys and fireplaces. We prepare drawings and samples and help with the process.

How do I compare masonry quotes?

Compare written scopes: materials, preparation, footings and drainage, finishes and cleanup. Our cost guide explains what drives the price.

Can I build a project in phases?

Yes. Many owners start with the structure and add features over time. We plan the whole design first so later additions fit.

FAQ

Repair and care

Can you repair masonry you did not build?

Often yes. We inspect first and tell you what is possible and what matters most.

How often should masonry be inspected?

Once a year is a good habit. Our maintenance plans cover a yearly walk-around with photos and a short report.

Should I seal my brick or stone?

Sometimes. A breathable penetrating sealer can help patios, walls and chimneys, but repairs come first. We test a small area before sealing.
