Safe, handsome stone steps, landings and entry platforms that make hillsides walkable and front doors welcoming.
Steps are one of the places where masonry earns its keep. A well-built set of stone steps makes a steep yard usable, gives a front door a proper welcome and keeps feet safe in rain and frost. Poorly built steps settle, tilt and trip people, so this is work that rewards care.
We build steps with consistent risers and treads, solid footings and a bit of slope on each tread so rain runs off. Surfaces are chosen for grip, and landings are sized so you can pause, turn and carry a load. For house entries, we match the stone to the home and add railings or lighting where they help. Good steps also change how a yard is used. When a slope becomes easy to walk, the back garden, the fire pit and the lower lawn all become places people actually go, so a well-built set of steps expands the usable yard.
Every step should feel the same underfoot. We calculate riser height and tread depth so the whole run is even and comfortable.
Steps are heavy and have to stay in position. We build on compacted stone and, where needed, concrete footings below frost depth.
Thick treads, a gentle slope and a textured finish help keep surfaces safe. Edges are rounded or eased so they do not chip.
A wide landing at the top or turn makes steps easier and safer. Railings and low lights add comfort and a polished look.
