Leaning, spalling and crumbling chimneys repaired or rebuilt from the roofline up with matched brick and sound mortar.
The chimney is the most exposed part of a masonry house. It sits above the roof, takes wind, rain, sun and freezing temperatures on every side and has no shelter. Over the years, mortar erodes, bricks flake and crown cracks let water in. A chimney in poor shape can drop bricks, leak into the house and eventually lean.
We start by inspecting the chimney inside and out, looking at the mortar, the bricks, the crown, the flue and the flashing. Small problems get repointed and sealed. When the top courses or the entire stack are too far gone, we carefully take them down and rebuild them with matched brick, keeping the chimney as close to the original look as possible.
We look at the whole chimney, including the attic and the firebox. You get a clear explanation of what needs repair now and what can wait.
Where the structure is sound, we repair mortar joints and replace damaged bricks, which is faster and more economical than rebuilding.
When the top section is loose or leaning, we number the bricks, take them down and rebuild with new mortar, new flashing and a new crown.
Roof work has risks. We use proper fall protection, protect your roof and landscaping and clean up all debris.
